Volunteer Interpreters have a public-facing role, talking to visitors about the Museum's exhibits. Often, this entails being stationed on the replica gunboat Philadelphia II, discussing Revolutionary War history, but interpreters can also interpret ecology, blacksmithing, small boats, and more. This role is a good fit for people who love having conversations with others and are enthusiastic about sharing history and other material with the public. 

Collections volunteers assist with a variety of projects pertaining to the Museum's Collections department. This can include photographing artifacts, updating catalog entries, organizing institutional records, and more, depending on the current needs of the Collections department. This role would be especially fitting for anyone with good organizational skills and an interest in history or museum studies, and people hoping to gain experience in a museum setting. 

Volunteers at Project Independence Adult Day spend time talking and walking with our elderly participants, helping lead activities and games, and chatting at mealtimes. Being part of this loving community with brighten your day, as you brighten the day for the wonderful people who attend Project Independence.

Vermont Adaptive seeks energetic, dedicated individuals who have a passion for sports, working with athletes with disabilities, and non-profit management and who want to learn while sharing their passions with others.

Internships are for people ages 18+ and are specifically designed to fit college and professional program requirements while being flexible around class and work schedules. We work directly with programs at local colleges and universities and are happy to design an internship to meet your academic goals. Many of our internship positions are paid.

Interns help instruct and manage day to day programs, year-round for individuals of all ages and disabilities. We can also design special projects or internship activities around your areas of interest.

Volunteers are needed to be a part of our board for Addison County Readers (ACR). The primary focus of ACR is its sponsorship of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a program that mails free monthly books to the homes of close to 1,000 children in Addison County, 0-5 years of age.

Responsibilities of Board Members include attending monthly meetings and supporting the implementation of this volunteer-run program. Additional duties are advocacy of the program, recruitment of children in Addison County, fundraising, and publicity.

The Teen Center is seeking volunteers or Middlebury College work-study students who are interested in helping one afternoon a week during Drop In. Drop In runs every school day from 3:00pm - 6:00pm. Drop In Assistants spend time with teens in 7th - 12th grades, playing video games, making art, gardening, playing basketball, skating on the Mini ramp, or just sitting and chatting. Drop In Assistants serve as role-models, mentors, and safe adults who are outside of school and home settings. All Teen Center staff and volunteers must be willing to be background checked. Our strong preference is for volunteers who can commit to a consistent day of the week for one or two semesters, as our teens will rely on that consistency and form bonds with our volunteers. 

Otter Creek Child Center is looking for enthusiastic, flexible, and energetic classroom assistants to join our team.  This is a part-time workstudy position. Must enjoy spending time with young children and being a team player.  

Responsible for supervision of children in the absence of one of the regular classroom staff, for example, during breaks and planning time. Snack preparation. Helping with clean-up and other household chores including but not limited to: Sweeping, mopping, laundry, dishes, taking out trash and recyclables. Replenishing supplies, paper products, garbage bags, soap dispensers. Replenishing classroom supplies such as drawing and painting paper, paint containers, markers, making play dough etc. Other duties at the discretion of the Classroom Teachers. Work study students are under the supervision of classroom teachers.  Work study students are counted in teacher/child ratio. Work study students receive orientation, and a handbook of center policies and guidelines for working in an early childhood setting.

The Middlebury Community Music Center is seeking a volunteer handyperson. Put your skills to good use and join us! You’ll play an essential role in maintaining a safe and functional environment for our programs at our historic 6 Main Street home base. You’ll be responsible for tackling a variety of projects, from leaky faucets, to electrical issues, to light carpentry projects. Your efforts will make a huge difference in our community!

Otter Creek is in need of a group of volunteers to help us clean out our barn.  We have three stories that need to be sorted into throw away, keep, and possible sell piles!  

We are hoping to complete the work by the end of May and are flexible with dates!

Addison County Community Trust is seeking a volunteer for approximately 2 hours per month to support our Board of Directors. The volunteer would be responsible for taking notes at ACCT’s monthly Board meetings, which occur on the fourth Thursday of the month from 4:00 to 5:30 pm via Zoom or in person in Middlebury or Vergennes. The commitment could extend through the semester or beyond if desired. The volunteer would have the opportunity to learn about board service, nonprofit governance, and affordable housing while supporting a local nonprofit striving to enrich the lives of low- and moderate-income Vermonters by developing and managing safe, high quality, permanently affordable housing and associated services for families, seniors, and individuals.

Community Rides Volunteer Drivers provide an invaluable service for Addison County. Many residents (including elderly, disabled and low-income neighbors) need to access healthcare, food and critical services, but have no transportation and cannot use our buses.  Volunteer Drivers play a crucial role in our organization by providing these rides.

Volunteers must have 5 years of driving experience and be able to pass background checks.  TVT reimburses for mileage at the government rate.  As a volunteer, you tell us how frequently you would like to drive, and who you are comfortable transporting.

Addison County Community Trust and SASH are in need of a volunteer to come to the Vergennes office at 50 Armory Lane and help with up to 10 hours a week of filing and light phone calls for a couple of weeks, then five hours a week ongoing. Volunteer will need to do HIPAA training provided by ACCT or already have done the training and understand basic aspects of HIPAA compliance.

Addison County Readers is an all-volunteer organization. As the local sponsor of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library,  we raise money to pay for the 12,000 free books that are sent to children each year.  The cost of these books and their mailing is approximately $30.000 per child per year.  Funding comes from local organizations and businesses, grants and individual donations, and the contributions of towns in Addison County.  Volunteers are needed to help us with fund raising activities.

How you can help:

Tell others about the Imagination Library and let them know that even a small donation will help support the program:

         $30 provides one child with 12 books for a year

         $150 provides one child with 60 books over 5 years (birth to age 5)

         $300 supports10 children for a year: 12 monthly books for each child, a total of 120 books.

Work with other volunteers on yearly fund raising efforts: grant writing, letters to donors, requests to businesses and service organizations, and participation in community outreach events.

Objective – Vermont Works for Women provides career services free of charge to women seeking employment advice. The goal of our career services is to empower women to find and keep jobs that meet their needs. The Addison County Parent Child Center is looking for volunteers to help with a wide variety of outdoor projects. Potential projects include: flowerbed maintenance, tree pruning, mulching, ect. RSVP of Addison County has many opportunities to make handmade items for the community. We are seeking volunteers to sew masks, walker bags and heat packs and knit warm clothing items such as hats and mittens for local non-profit organizations. These are invaluable gifts for community members. 

RSVP has many opportunities to volunteer safely at home or in the community. Volunteers are needed to help with food assistance, transportation, health and wellbeing programs, and more.

Technology help: computer updates, general operations 

Four generations of the Robinson family lived in the house that is now central to Rokeby Museum, a National Historic Landmark comprised of nine historic buildings, miles of walking trails and a new gallery and education center. Robinson family members, generation by generation, made significant contributions as Abolitionists, farmers, writers, artists and active members of their community.

Today their stories are being told – via exhibits, programs and guided tours - to inspire respect for human potential and the environment.

You can make a difference too, by helping to tell the Robinson family stories.

The museum is now recruiting volunteers to conduct guided tours of the historic Robinson family home. Tours are given Fridays through Mondays beginning July 1 and running through October 28.

Volunteer tour guides need only commit to providing tours two days a month, but once you've attended the intriguing three-session guide training program, Rokeby thinks you'll want to do more – and learn more. Along with seasoned guides and staff, you'll have the opportunity to do both.

The Dinners with Love Board of Directors plays a valuable role for the organization. They serve as advisors, ambassadors, and advocates–what we like to call "Triple A Board Members." As ADVISORS, they bring their knowledge, experience, and skills to the table to help inform the work of the Executive Director. As AMBASSADORS, our board members represent Dinners with Love to stakeholders. And as ADVOCATES, they help Dinners with Love to identify and secure the financial resources and partnerships to advance our mission.

Passion for the mission is central. But to round out the knowledge and skills of our existing Board of Directors, we are looking for individuals in particular who have a background in one or more of the following areas:

While Dinners with Love is based in Brandon, board members may be located in any area of the state. Most meetings are virtual to accommodate the geographic spread of our existing board.

Dinners with Love is a network of hospice agencies, restaurants, and volunteers who work together to bring free meals to hospice patients and their families. A volunteer is needed to educate restaurants in Addison County about Dinners with Love and to ask for their involvement. Must provide own transportation with valid driver's license, registration, and auto insurance.

Monthly meeting with Job Corps students, age 16-25, who are preparing to exit the program and need assistance with career transition. The panel would address workplace behavior, interviewing skills, financial independence, and housing issues. There would be a q & a session and mock interviews in a workshop format after the panel. Ideal volunteers would have been or are currently in the workforce, feel comfortable speaking with young adults, and potentially have a background in finance, housing, or one of our trades (Culinary Arts, Carpentry, Medical Assistant, Automotive Repair, Welding, Office Administration, Urban Forestry, Building Construction Technology).

Attending monthly Rotary Meetings

Addison County Restorative Justice Services, Inc. is looking for concerned, committed community members to make a difference in the lives of individuals convicted of serious offenses. Volunteers will help support an offender who has been released from prison to successfully re-enter the community through positive connections and encouragement. Additionally, by holding the offender, or core member, accountable to established expectations for community behavior, volunteers help interrupt the cycle of criminal offending. The commitment to do this work comes from our understanding that it is through relationships of compassion and accountability that those who have been damaging to others (often as a result of being damaged themselves) can change by acceptance and social reconciliation.  Trained COSA volunteers work in teams of 3-5 and meet weekly with the core member and COSA Coordinator to support the offender in returning to the community and managing everyday living.

Feed & water animals, collect eggs, repair fence, etc as needed.
