The Museum has opportunities in its grounds and gardens for anyone who enjoys working with their hands or being outdoors. Grounds and gardens volunteers help make repairs to buildings, paint walls, weed and maintain the gardens, and more, according to their interests and abilities. Opportunities vary and can be available in all seasons.

Volunteers in the Boat Shop assist with a variety of tasks, including maintenance and construction on the Museum's fleet of wooden boats. People with woodworking and boatbuilding experience are welcomed, as are people without prior experience who enjoy working with their hands. Opportunities vary depending on the season, current projects, and volunteer skill set. 

Volunteer Interpreters have a public-facing role, talking to visitors about the Museum's exhibits. Often, this entails being stationed on the replica gunboat Philadelphia II, discussing Revolutionary War history, but interpreters can also interpret ecology, blacksmithing, small boats, and more. This role is a good fit for people who love having conversations with others and are enthusiastic about sharing history and other material with the public. 

Collections volunteers assist with a variety of projects pertaining to the Museum's Collections department. This can include photographing artifacts, updating catalog entries, organizing institutional records, and more, depending on the current needs of the Collections department. This role would be especially fitting for anyone with good organizational skills and an interest in history or museum studies, and people hoping to gain experience in a museum setting.
